Review of Time's Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

"Topheavy with false import that rambles like a lost puppy"

Stephanie Zacharek is yet another reviewer who wishes to make humorous similes which have no real meaning.  Calling the provoking political and spiritual ideas presented in Batman v Superman "unshaped" followed by saying they are "too obvious" is not only an oxymoron but also indicates a lack of understanding of the themes and their relation to the story.
She claims the movie is topheavy with false portent which suggests she didn't understand the significance of Batman's absolution and Superman's humanization.  Rather than suggest Terrio and Goyer worked overtime to make these superheroes superserious, perhaps Zacharek should take a moment to consider the real life ramifications of these heroes and events and realize they don't need help in seeming serious.  If anything Marvel is working overtime to make its superheroes not be serious instead trying to make them fun and inadvertently totally unrealistic.

Zacharek overlooks the part Lex plays in Superman and Batman's quarrel; Lex manipulates Batman into feeling a need to kill Superman and gives Superman an ultimatum.  She also states Senator Finch enters into an ill-advised alliance with Lex.  This gives us a very important clue to the fact that Zacharek also is likely not to have watched the movie or understood it given Finch does no such thing.  While she doesn't criticize Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex, the fact that she states Lex speaks in riddles rather than metaphors and sermons shows Lex's dialogue went over Zacharek's head.

Surprisingly Zacharek is able to identify the powerful moments between Superman and Lois, but calling Batman and Bruce Wayne sullen brats, jealous of Superman's glowing skin and saviorlike demeanor shows Zacharek completely missed Batman's motivations and with them the whole point of the movie.
