Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Plot Summary

          Following the events of Man of Steel, Superman's reputation has grown.  There are those that view him as a savior and those that view him as a threat following his encounter with Zod and his band.  Both views are prompted by the awesome power Superman possesses.  Lex Luthor, fearing Superman's power and its potential to enslave humanity, sets out to prove that Superman is no god, and to eliminate him and the other "gods among men" from the face of the Earth.  He orchestrates a series of attacks to expose Superman as a fraud and a danger to the world.  The blowback of Superman's role in these attacks spurs controversy surrounding his place in the world and causes him to question himself.  
          Meanwhile Lex uses Batman's shared fear of Superman's power to manipulate him into killing Superman and subsequently target the other metahumans he has discovered.  Lex allows Batman to successfully steal from him the Kryptonite left behind by the World Engine from Zod's attack.  Using Superman's mother as leverage, Lex forces Superman to fight Batman and face his death at his hands.  With the help of Lois, Batman sees the humanity within Superman and realizes he is not a threat.  This causes Batman to gain perspective on his own psychological issues.  Unable to save Martha himself due to Lex Luthor's ultimatum, Superman relies on Batman, who is seeking redemption for his actions, to save his mother.  Superman sets off to face Lex who has a backup plan: the monster Doomsday.  
          A victim of his own hubris, Lex creates an uncontrollable monster in the belief he can command it to kill Superman and the other metahumans on the planet.  Doomsday, however, goes on a warpath and becomes embroiled in a battle with Superman.  Batman, having successfully saved Martha and learning of the threat of Doomsday, aims to use the Kryptonite weapon originally intended to kill Superman against the Kryptonian/Human hybrid.  With the help of the mysterious Wonder Woman, the three are able to kill the beast at a cost: Superman's life.  
          Fully expecting Doomsday to be Superman's end, Lex uses the distraction as an opportunity to learn of other Superman level threats from the Kryptonian scout ship and discovers Darkseid.  However with the defeat of Doomsday, the authorities lay siege on the scout ship and arrest Lex Luthor.  Batman visits Lex in prison to confront his puppet master and learns of the extraterrestrial threat.  He enlists the aid of Wonder Woman to seek out other metahumans and form a team against this threat as the world mourns the loss of their greatest hero.
